Style Curator of Hindustan Times India’s Most Stylish Awards 2018, designer Manish Malhotra presented his first collection of the year at an evening of sheer extravagance
MUMBAI, 24TH JANUARY 2018:
For his first show of the year, couturier Manish Malhotra sure made heads turn at Hindustan Times India’s Most Stylish Awards 2018, as he unveiled his latest collection in theatrical style. An elaborate line of sparkling evening wear pieces for women, and tuxedos and dinner jackets for men, the collection signified a new design direction with a global outlook – with a strong focus on international couture.
With a sartorial narrative of glamour and celebration, the collection included pieces with dare-to-bare necklines, sheath gowns, and wispy romantic creations. Set to redefine sensuousness, Malhotra’s sheer, sequined gowns came with textured tulle flares, with a splash of hand-painted gold dewdrops. Tasseled dresses in intricate hand-embroidery made a glamorous statement with their movement and swing, and a touch of vintage-style feathers. On everyone’s wish list were the nude, tulle slim-cut gowns, emblazoned with striking textured patterns, created from vivid cutout sequins and beads – delicately constructed like works of abstract art.
Envisioned for the contemporary woman with a bold sense of style, the collection is crafted in organza and sheer fabrics in fierce (and fabulous) shades of gold and dreamy pastel pinks. For the modern gentlemen, the label presented tailored dinner jackets in aged velvet with skinny trousers, and classic tuxedos paired with embroidered brooches and shirts, unbuttoned shirt look, ruffled collars, edgy lapels with a hint of sequence.
For the award ceremony, Manish Malhotra took up the creative challenge of Style Curator for Hindustan Times India’s Most Stylish Awards. He conceptualized the evening according to a Court Decadence theme – transforming the venue into an extravagant night of French-style nobility. Guests soaked in the opulent, luxurious ambiance, which included larger-than-life chandeliers, towering wall to ceiling drapes, and a grand monochrome flooring scheme for the main stage.
Speaking about the evening, Manish Malhotra said, “I enjoyed playing Style Curator at Hindustan Times India’s Most Stylish Awards 2018. It was a dreamy evening of true grandeur, with the country’s most style-savvy, successful achievers. My collection was showcased as an eloquent story told in chapters – full of texture play, elegant trails, sheer opulence, boldness, sensuality and use of intricate embroidery art – making an audacious statement at the beginning of the year for the ever-evolving Hindustan Times and me.”
